Flt. Lt Jerry Rawlings (rtd.), the former President of Ghana was in Nigeria on Thursday, January 17, 2007, as the guest speaker at the 5th Annual Trust Dialogue, organised by Media Trust Ltd. publishers of the Daily Trust. He addressed a gathering of principal characters of the Nigerian leadership, at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, in Abuja. The notable Nigerian leaders included former head of Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), who represented former president Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), as the Guest of Honour, minister of information and communications, Mr. John Odey, who represented Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, former Senate president, Ken Nnamani, was the Chairman of the occasion, and the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari.
Among the dignitaries were, governors Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Mamman Ali (Yobe), and Ibrahim Shehu Shema (Katsina), chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, Chief Edwin Ume-Ezeoke, pioneer national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Solomon Lar, former governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Boni Haruna, and former military governors of Niger State, Lawal Gwadabe and Habib Idris Shu'aibu.
Nigeria needs a revolutionary leader like Jerry Rawlings, to sack the corrupt government of kleptomaniacs and begin the social, economic and political transformation of the Nigerian state for the nation building of a New Nigeria for the leadership of Africa in the comity of nations.
Flt. Lt Jerry Rawlings (rtd.) of Ghana, and Muammar al-Gaddafi (معمر القذافي )of Libya were the best military dictators who later became civilian leaders in Africa and we need such leaders in Nigeria and the sooner we have them, the better for Nigerians.
